Philip Schmolling Appointed to the DRV Competition Department

Hamburg, March 2025 – Philip Schmolling, Jury President of the regattas of the Allgemeiner Alster-Club / North German Rowing Federation (AAC/NRB), has been appointed to the Competition Department of the German Rowing Federation (DRV). This marks the first time in decades that a regatta director from the AAC/NRB is directly represented in this important expert committee of the federation.

“For me, this appointment is a great honor and at the same time a confirmation of my work as Jury President in recent years,” says Schmolling. “I look forward to tackling upcoming challenges together with the team and to advancing rowing in Germany – especially the competition system – making it future-proof and professionalizing it.”

With this appointment, the AAC/NRB and the German Rowing Federation are moving even closer together. While the First Chairman of the AAC/NRB, Andreas Döpper, has been a member of the DRV Presidium since autumn 2024, the competition expert level will now also be represented by Philip Schmolling. This ensures a more direct information chain and strengthens cooperation between the Hamburg State Rowing Association and the national federation.

“The appointment of Philip Schmolling is a strong signal for our competitive sport. As a recognized and competent Jury President at the Hamburg rowing hub and at international regattas, he will actively contribute his extensive experience to the Competition Department. We are very pleased that a member of the AAC/NRB board is now also represented in the DRV Competition Department,” says Andreas Döpper.

Philip Schmolling brings extensive experience to the department. As Jury President of all AAC/NRB regattas, he knows the practical procedures of regattas and understands where challenges lie and which processes work well. His many years of experience as Jury President in Munich have also shaped him, providing valuable insights into the organization and execution of high-level competition events.

Cornelius Grajecki, Deputy Chairman of the AAC/NRB and Schmolling’s fellow regatta director, welcomes the decision: “I am very pleased that Philip will represent us in this important department of the DRV. Thanks to his experience as an international umpire at World Rowing, he is excellently networked worldwide – and now he is bringing this knowledge to the central German committee for competitive rowing. That strengthens our Hamburg regattas.”

“I look forward to bringing my experience and passion for rowing to this new role – and together with the team, to provide important impetus in the coming four years,” Schmolling looks ahead.
