31st Ergometer Race 2024: 500 Rowers at the Start

500 Participants in the Wichern School Sports Hall

For the 31st Ergometer Race on February 24, 2024, which was organized by the Rowing Committee of the School Authority together with the Hamburg School Rowing Association and the Hamburg State Rowing Association AAC/NRB, a total of 500 rowers, from beginners to performance class I, had registered for the 35 races over 500m, 1000m, 1500m, and 2000 meters. This was the largest number of entries for this event to date, making it the second largest in ergometer rowing after Essen-Kettwig, and the largest in children’s and junior ergometer rowing.

The venue was once again the Wichern School sports hall, which is ideally suited for this event. Students from the school catered to the guests and athletes. The largest field of participants was among the 13/14-year-old male students over 1000m, with 33 competitors. Hannes Weber (HHS / RG Hansa) won this race with 3:19.6. The fastest female student in this age group was Frieda Pesch (Wichern School / ARV Hanseat) with 3:55.8. There were 21 female participants in this category.

Large entry fields were also seen in the younger age group. Among the 17 students aged 12/13, Kaspar Krämer (Gym. Eppendorf/RG Hansa) achieved the fastest time over 1000m with 3:55.9, closely followed by Ina-Allaiah Nyass (Brechtschule / RC Allemania) of the same age, who completed the 1000m in 3:57.2. There were 23 female students participating in this category. The 15/16-year-old juniors competed over 1500m, where Kaya Wölk (Wichernschule/ARV Hanseat) with 5:33.3 and Oskar Müller (MCG/RV Wandsbek) with 4:48.2 secured the top spots.

The 17/18-year-old juniors had to complete 2000m. Nike Utesch (Marion-Dönhoff-Gym./DHuGRC) was the fastest female student with 7:07.6, and Hugo Thomas (Wilhelm-Gymnasium/DHuGRC) was the fastest male student with 6:23.1.

The youngest participants, aged 11, competed over 500m. Sophie Richter (HHS/RgHansa) won with 2:07.0, and Emil Schulz (Wichernschule/ARV Hanseat) won with 2:02.7. The beginner and performance group II student races were over 500m and 1000m. Here, the entry fields were significantly smaller.

Furthermore, there were four relay competitions: The 11-14-year-old girls from DHuGRC covered 1482 meters in 2 x 3 minutes, and the 15-17-year-old juniors from MCG covered 2603 meters in 3 x 3 minutes. Numerous students also used the breaks or warm-up phases for the 100m sprint.
