The DRV Junior Regatta was an excellent occasion to christen a new racing boat for young athletes in competitive sports.
“We are very grateful that the acquisition of this new boat was generously supported by the HSB and the Leistungssport Foundation,” said Andreas Döpper.
Today’s christening and the resulting availability of top-tier sports equipment support our significant activities as a priority sport, rowing, in Hamburg, within the Hamburg Active City Strategy.
The boat was christened in honor of one of our most successful rowers in Germany and an honorary member of the AAC/NRB State Rowing Association Hamburg, who sadly passed away far too soon last year at the age of 70.
With 5 World Championship titles and 3 silver medals at the Olympic Games, he was an exceptional athlete.
In 2016, after many previous accolades, he received a very special honor when he was inducted into the “Hall of Fame of German Sports.”
The young rowers from our Hamburg Performance Center will, in the future, compete for medals on national and international regatta courses in this quad scull, thus remaining at the heart of our beautiful sport of rowing for many years.
With great esteem, personal acknowledgment, and deep affection for an absolute exceptional athlete in our sport of rowing, the quad scull was named:
“Peter-Michael Kolbe”.
We wish the junior team and the boat “Good luck and success, smooth sailing, and always a hand’s breadth of water under the keel”!
