Extensive construction work is currently underway at the Rowing / Canoe Performance Center in Allermöhe for the
expansion of the federal rowing training base.
The Dove-Elbe and the Allermöhe Regatta Center have been the hub of competitive rowing and canoeing in Hamburg since the 1980s. To strengthen the federal rowing training base (BSP-Rudern), an extension to the existing building is now being realized, which includes an additional boat hall as well as sports and functional rooms on the ground floor, additional common rooms, seminar rooms, and offices on the upper floor, and a new entrance area. At the same time, a dedicated motorboat garage is being built for the BSP, and covered boat storage areas are being erected outdoors for boat storage.
The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, together with the federal government, is investing approximately 8 million euros for this. The municipal real estate company GMH | Gebäudemanagement Hamburg acts as the
implementation agency. The investments totaling approximately 8 million euros are financed by a grant from the Federal Ministry of the Interior and for Home Affairs amounting to 1.62 million euros and funds from the Ministry of Interior and Sports.
The official start of construction took place with the groundbreaking ceremony on April 22; the topping-out ceremony and roof installation are planned for November this year. According to current plans, the official completion date and inauguration could take place in September next year, around the NDM 2025.
“With this modern extension, ideal training conditions are being created for our top athletes at the Allermöhe location,” says Andreas Döpper. A small team of highly committed experts from our AAC/NRB State Rowing Association is very actively working to meet our requirements and, together with the construction management, is trying to keep disruptions to training operations and regattas as minimal as possible. The NDM 2024 on the last weekend of September is also an ideal opportunity to get a personal impression of the progress of the expansion.
The performance center in Allermöhe is part of the Ratzeburg / Hamburg dual federal training base, which functions as one of three main training bases of the German Rowing Association. More than 30 federal squad athletes are currently assigned to the dual training base, and another 150 state squad athletes and junior athletes also regularly use the facility in Allermöhe.
