On June 27, the hottest day of the year, the awards ceremony for the 25th WinterCup—initiated by Harald Sobisch—took place during the final leg of the race to the Biller Rowing Club.
After quenching my thirst in the scorching heat, I had the honor, with the assistance of Ines Stelzig, of presenting awards to the winners of the 2025/26 Winter Cup.
WASP won the challenge cup, with the Biller Rowing Club and the Hamburg women’s rowing team finishing in second and third place, respectively.
The champion in the individual competition is the Viking Ulrich Rothe. Despite ice drift, he rowed an outstanding 812 km from November 1, 25, to March 31, 26. The silver medal went to Peter Eckmann of the Protesia Rowing Club with 549 km, and close behind, Gabi Leifels of the Bille Rowing Club secured the bronze medal with 546 km.

With this heat and all the other water sports enthusiasts around, I find myself longing for a peaceful paddle when the weather is cooler. Starting in November, we’ll start racking up kilometers again for the next Winter Cup. I’m looking forward to it, and until then, I wish everyone a wonderful summer.
