100 Years of Alster Rowing Club HANSEAT

100 Years of Alster Rowing Club HANSEAT

Perfect rowing weather, the sun shone over the Osterbek Canal, and ARV Hanseat celebrated its 100th anniversary.

Club chairman Finn Leggeri welcomed all rowers and guests of honor.

Following congratulations from Active City Hamburg by State Councillor Holstein, he presented a special award from the Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, to the chairman of ARV HANSEAT.

On behalf of the German Rowing Federation, board member Andreas Döpper warmly congratulated Alster Rowing Club Hanseat v.1925 e.V. on its 100th anniversary and presented the DRV honorary pennant with a certificate. The deputy chairman of AAC/NRB, Mr. Cornelius Grajecki, presented the chairman with the joint gift from the Hamburg clubs/associations and the AAC/NRB State Rowing Association Hamburg.

The history of Alster Rowing Club Hanseat v. 1925 e.V. begins with the founding of Alster Rowing Club Vorwärts v. 1925 e.V. on August 8, 1925. The founding of the Uhlenhorster Rowing Association of 1933 e.V., the affiliation of RC Delphin with ARV, and the merger of the Uhlenhorster Rowing Association of 1933 with the Hanseat Rowing Club v.1950 represent numerous joint activities and their eventual consolidation into today’s Alster Rowing Club Hanseat v.1925 in 1960. ARV Vorwärts had already joined the German Rowing Federation DRV in 1948.

The self-managed construction of the clubhouse in 1960/61 was followed by the construction of the boathouse in 1975, and in 2016/17, the addition of changing rooms and a gym, along with the creation of new boat storage facilities. It has been continuously expanded and renovated, thus investing in the future of rowing. This future-oriented approach is strongly emphasized by the current significant commitment to using renewable energies, aiming to become the first climate-positive rowing club.

Successes at national and international regattas confirm the excellent work in youth development, from federal competitions to championships. Peter-Michael Kolbe’s Olympic silver medal is a major sporting highlight, alongside many significant victories at German Championships and DRV regattas with club-only teams.

Today, Alster Rowing Club Hanseat v. 1925 e.V. offers a balanced program of recreational sports, competitive sports, and touring rowing.

The ceremony on September 6 was a special day in the anniversary year, celebrated accordingly. There is also a digital commemorative publication with greetings, speeches, photos, and reports on Homepage – 100jahre.arv-hanseat.de

All club members and invited guests can proudly look back on 100 years of rowing at Alster Rowing Club Hanseat v. 1925.

For the future, Andreas Döpper – on behalf of the German Rowing Federation and the General Alster Club / North German Rowers’ Association – wished Alster Rowing Club Hanseat v. 1925 e.V. continued success, joy in rowing, and best of luck!

Congratulations on 100 years of rowing at Alster Rowing Club Hanseat v. 1925 e.V.!
