Performance Center
The center for our athletic success.
The Allermöhe Regatta Course on the Dove-Elbe is an artificially created rowing and canoeing course located about ten kilometers southeast of Hamburg city center, reachable by car or S-Bahn in approximately 15 minutes from the main train station. It was opened in 1985 with a length of two kilometers on the disused side arm of the Elbe and has since served as the venue for numerous regattas.
The facility is assigned to the Olympic Training Center Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein and, as a state performance center, is a central location for competitive rowing and canoeing in Northern Germany.
The course was extensively modernized in 2010 and generally meets the current requirements of the World Rowing Federation ‘FISA’. It features an eight-lane system with more flexible usability of individual lanes. South of the eighth lane, an additional lane is available for camera catamarans and warm-up space.
The regatta center, the motorboat harbor, and areas for regatta operations, such as a temporary spectator grandstand, are located on the north bank of the Dove-Elbe.
A pedestrian bridge in the finish area connects the north and south banks, allowing spectators access to the south bank. The bridge features an opening element to avoid impeding water traffic from Bergedorf to the Elbe.
Together with Eichbaumsee, the regatta course forms an artificial but natural park landscape and serves as a local recreation area. The Dove-Elbe, including its near-natural bank sections, is protected as a biotope. On the south bank, on the former Elbe island “Die Hohe,” there is a nature and bird sanctuary.
Various competition formats (see list) have taken place on the regatta course so far.
The regatta course in Hamburg-Allermöhe is indispensable for Hamburg and should be further modernized or optimized with the bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. A comprehensive catalog of measures was already developed during the bid for the 2019 World Championships.
To permanently keep the regatta course among internationally significant regatta facilities, medium- and long-term investments in the land- and water-side infrastructure are planned by the City of Hamburg.
