School Rowing
School and Student Rowing in Hamburg.
Rowing has a long tradition in Hamburg schools. The history of school rowing in Hamburg began in 1909 with the founding of the ‘Hamburg’ Gymnasium Rowing Club at Wilhelm-Gymnasium. Since then, more and more schools have joined. Today, rowing is practiced at 54 Hamburg schools from 4th to 13th grade; in regular sports classes, elective courses, sports courses in the upper secondary level, extracurricular clubs, school rowing groups, and school rowing clubs.
The Hamburg State Rowing Association promotes cooperation between schools and rowing clubs. It engages with its state coaches in the integrated system of school and competitive sports (“Partner School for Elite Sports”, “Partner School for Junior Competitive Sports”, and “Elite Sports School”).
The Hamburg State Rowing Association works in close coordination with those responsible for rowing in the school authority and the Hamburg Student Rowing Association. Together with these partners, it annually organizes the Hamburg School Rowing Ergometer Competition in February.
