When the future of rowing comes to Hamburg
This weekend, the Dove-Elbe will once again be the meeting place for Germany’s top young athletes.
A total of 1,017 athletes from 182 clubs will come to Hamburg-Allermöhe for the 2nd International DRV Junior Regatta from June 5 to 7, 2026. With 271 races, 1,279 boat registrations and 248 heats, the event is once again one of the largest and most important junior regattas in Germany.
Those competing in Allermöhe this weekend are not just fighting for victories and medals. For many athletes, it’s about the next steps on the way to the German National Championships and the U19 World Championships in Plovdiv.
It is no coincidence that Hamburg now plays a special role in this.
With the new national base, the European Rowing Development Center and a regatta course that meets international requirements, the location has developed visibly in recent years. Today, high-performance youth work, modern infrastructure and international networking come together here.
Hamburg can also look back on successful weeks in sporting terms.
Hamburg’s young talent with a tailwind from Brandenburg
Hamburg can also look back on successful weeks in sport. At the U19 European Championships in Brandenburg, the Hamburg State Rowing Association had the second-largest state association contingent in Germany behind North Rhine-Westphalia with seven athletes.
Four female and three male athletes from ARV Hanseat, Ruderverein Wandsbek and RG Hansa represented Hamburg’s colors on the international stage. They were accompanied by coaches Friedrich Dunkel (ARV Hanseat) and Friedrich Kaiser (RV Wandsbek).
The Hamburg talents returned from the European Championships with gold, silver, a fourth place and other strong final placings. Now the focus is on the next important steps towards the U19 World Championships in Plovdiv.
With Oskar Müller (RV Wandsbek), Kaya Wölk, Maria Pesch, Charlotte Paulat and Yoan Ivanov (ARV Hanseat), Henrik Möller (RG Hansa) and Lynn Bäcker (RV Wandsbek), several European Championship participants will be competing in Hamburg. For them, the International DRV Junior Regatta will be an important yardstick in the race for the coveted places in the German Rowing Association’s World Championship boats.
But the focus is not only on the European Championship starters. Numerous young athletes have already shown at the Cologne Junior Regatta that they are a force to be reckoned with for the rest of the season. The performance density on the Dove-Elbe is likely to be correspondingly high.
The U17s are also hungry for more
It’s not just the U19s who are creating anticipation.
Hamburg’s U17 eights have also made a strong showing recently. Both the junior women’s eight and the junior eight of the AAC/NRB won their seeded races at the Cologne junior regatta.
Now both boats want to show that these performances were not just a snapshot.
More than just a regatta
The International DRV Junior Regatta stands for top-class sport, promotion of young talent and community.
More than 100 volunteers, together with international judges, state-of-the-art timekeeping, livestream services and the Food Village, will ensure that athletes, coaches and visitors feel welcome in Hamburg.
The best young rowers in Germany come together on the water. On land, clubs, families, coaches and rowing enthusiasts come together. It is precisely this mix that creates the special atmosphere of the regatta in Allermöhe.
