This time, the regular April meeting brought the board of the AAC/NRB State Rowing Association Hamburg to RC Süderelbe in Harburg. The host, Sebastian Lochte (Treasurer of the RCS), warmly welcomed the revival of the idea to hold regular meetings at member clubs. In an informal exchange before the board meeting, he briefly presented the development of rowing in Harburg and at the RCS, and provided an overview of the general sports offerings, the cooperation with TUHH, and the establishment of the student division. At the same time, the particular difficulties of the rowing area were discussed, related to the years-long closure of the Reiherstieg Lock, the silting of the harbor, the necessary energy-efficient renovation of the boathouse, and the extension of the sports framework agreement. The AAC/NRB LRV-Hamburg board members listened to the explanations and offered concrete support. “Something like the procedure for the closure of the Reiherstieg Lock, must not happen again in cooperation with all parties involved,” summarized Chairman Andreas Döpper, who also thanked the RCS for its hospitality that evening.
In the subsequent board meeting, the board first commemorated Friedo Niebuhr, the association’s former touring rowing warden, who had passed away in December 2022, and whose death they had only just learned of.
On the regular agenda, the board adopted the business allocation plan as prescribed by the statutes. Furthermore, a detailed report on the last DRV National Council meeting was the focus of discussions. The introduction of SAMS, which is assessed quite differently by the various state rowing associations, continues to be viewed positively by Hamburg, but also with critical remarks. Not all advantages of the new system have yet been communicated in a way that makes them accessible to all users. Especially regarding health passes at regattas, potential for improvement is still seen. Regarding its use as association software, it is planned to exchange ideas with other LRVs.
The announced changes in the JtfO – Youth Trains for Olympia – program must be shaped positively for the future of school rowing. The report from the meeting in Brandenburg, which took place concurrently with the small boat championships, concluded with the information about the farewell of our former chairman Werner Glowik from the National Council. Bernd Nennhaus, as Board Member for Competitive Sports, took the opportunity to highlight the excellent results of Hamburg rowers, who at times climbed all the podiums. Good sporting successes were also achieved at the regional test held in Allermöhe at Easter.
Following these regattas, the board then addressed the regattas planned for Hamburg in 2023. Regatta Board Member Cornelius Grajecki provided an overview of the planning status, which is on a promising course. At the same time, further discussions are underway regarding increasing the regatta staff, which will be discussed in more detail in upcoming meetings. Voluntary helpers are also urgently needed to actively support the team on regatta days. The board once again affirmed its interest in hosting international regattas in Hamburg and aims to initiate a constructive process with the DRV, FISA World Rowing, and the Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
This is also necessary given that the building permit for the expansion of the federal training center in Allermöhe is expected shortly, with construction scheduled to begin in autumn.
Hans-Thomas Rehbein, the assessor responsible for the operating company, will continue to explain this to the city and emphasize the consideration of sporting interests in Allermöhe at every phase of construction. Regarding the performance center in Allermöhe, he reported that a suitable candidate has been found for the open position of property management.
The chairwoman of the Hamburg Rowing Youth, Rosa-Lotta Konerding, reported on the delegates’ assembly and the technical training course held at the beginning of April. She is convinced that Hamburg will once again represent the Hanseatic City with a large team at the national competition this year.
Before the other attendees made their way back to northern Hamburg, Treasurer Guido Schaudin announced that the HSB had approved both the settlement of squad subsidies and the specialist association budget as proper.
