450 Rowers Make the Wichern School Sports Hall Vibrate
Saturday, February 26, 2023 The loud whirring of the 50 rowing ergometers fills the Wichern School sports hall this Saturday. 450 rowers from Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, and Lower Saxony participated in the ergometer race.
After a two-year COVID-induced break, the now 30th Ergometer Race took place last weekend in February, organized by the Hamburg School Rowing Association, the Rowing Expert Committee (of the school authority), and the State Rowing Association AAC/NRB. The venue was once again the Wichern School sports hall, which is ideally suited for this purpose.
Under the watchful eyes of the state coaches, the A juniors (male and female) were not only competing for medals but also aiming to achieve the qualifying time, which, alongside on-water performance, is crucial for World Championship nomination. Lasse Junge from STS Alter Teichweg (RC Favorite Hammonia) in the male juniors and Nike Versace from Wilhelm Gymnasium (RG Hansa) in the female juniors achieved this in impressive fashion. Both significantly undercut the required standard.
The junior and children’s races consistently featured strong entry fields and numerous impressive individual results.
The participation of students from Gymnasium am Markt in Achim was particularly gratifying, as they accepted the somewhat longer journey to take part in the Ergocup.
Special thanks also go to the team around Uwe Stoebe and PPT, who once again took care of the technical implementation and sound for the event.
