After the season is before the big city comparison within the North-East regional group. On October 3, 20 athletes from Team Hamburg took buses to Dresden and the international regatta course in Racice, Czech Republic.
The Hamburg juniors were to compete against Berlin, Bremen, Potsdam, Rostock and Dresden in various boat classes.
The start on Saturday was made by the helmsmen and the substitutes in the 1x. The atmosphere was great right from the start and the athletes were actively cheered on and supported by their teams. This was followed by the juniors’ races in the 1x and 2x, with the juniors starting in the 2-. This was followed in quick succession by the juniors in the 2- and the juniors in the 1x and 2x. The first race day ended with the 350m sprint races of the two 8+.
On the evening of the first day, the juniors were clearly ahead of Berlin in first place. Berlin and Rostock were ahead of Hamburg by one point each in the junior category.
Sunday was dominated by the big boats and was intended to show which federal state had put together the strongest B-junior team.
The juniors in the 4x+ and the juniors in the 4+ made the start here. The first important points were won in both races. Closely followed by the junior women’s 4+ and junior men’s 4x+ races, the grand final of the eights was then due to take place.
With the field still tight in the junior women’s division, victory in the eight brought the last very important points.
The junior eighth-placed team was able to extend its lead significantly with a victory.
After the big joint award ceremony, the winners in the junior men’s, junior women’s and overall rankings were announced.
Hamburg was able to beat the competition in all three categories.
Congratulations to all the athletes and coaches involved and we look forward to the comparison next year in Bremen.
