Just in time for the start of the second half of the year, the Biller Rowing Club invited Hamburg’s rowing family to its destination trip.
After many hot weekends, the weather forecast this time promised gloomier prospects. But even that couldn’t deter Hamburg’s rowing family.
True to the motto “We are from Hamburg and not made of sugar,” 23 boats from the Alster, the Osterbek and Isebek Canals from the north, the Norderelbe from the center, and the Aßmann Canal and the Süderelbe from the south made their way through the Tiefstack lock to the Bille district.
And of course, the neighbors from RV Bille also didn’t miss the opportunity to stop by Billerhuder Island.
Due to the fixed lock times in Tiefstack, about two-thirds of the boats gathered for locking at 11:30 AM and completely filled the lock chamber. Even here, there was a lively buzz among the boats. A good-humored lock master and a generous touring rowing official from the AAC/NRB State Rowing Association ensured further good spirits.
Those who had not been deterred by the weather were rewarded at the Biller RC with warm hospitality and an outstanding barbecue, salad, and cake buffet, making the weather completely forgotten.
Michael Otto from the BRC was very pleased about this: “Despite the disappointing weather, 100 participants made their way to visit the Bille. We sincerely thank you for that. Our team had a lot of fun.”
After the refreshments, all rowers returned to their clubs. One crew must have started their return journey so hastily due to the lock schedule that they were no longer able to pack all their belongings. In any case, a thick coxswain’s jacket with WSAP lettering was left behind and is still waiting for its owner.
Hamburg’s rowing family thanks the BRC team for this great destination trip. As a special highlight, there is a short film of the event here, which was created by the Biller RC.
