Water Levels on the Alster
In recent weeks, we have received an increased number of inquiries from clubs/associations regarding the water level on the Alster, which we have taken up together with the
HSB Water Sports Commission (WSK).
Regarding this, HSB held a discussion with the Water Police. The cause lies with the Schaartor lock, as LSBG employees were involved in a TVL labor dispute, and the water was apparently not regulated as usual. The BUKEA Water and Shipping Authority W 13 is responsible for supervision; they are aware of the problem and have confirmed the information from the Water Police. They are monitoring the Alster’s water level and confirmed that apparently nothing is done by LSBG up to a water level of 3.19 m. However, in the past, when this water level was exceeded, LSBG reacted and opened the lock despite the labor dispute.
There is a damming permit for the Alster of 3.25 m, but an agreement that the water level should not rise above 3.20 m. For the Krugkoppelbrücke gauge, it appears that this agreement is being adhered to, even despite strikes. The water levels can be viewed here: https://www.wabiha.de/pegel.html
Generally, for all our clubs and associations, in an emergency, the fire department or police should be directly alerted/notified.
We will keep this topic on the agenda for our HSB Water Sports Commission meeting in January 2024.
