With an entry field of 420 rowers, this year’s 33rd ergometer competition was once again held at the Wilhelm-Gymnasium. As every year, there were sprint races, relays and races over distances of 500m, 1000m, 1500m and 2000m at this largest indoor rowing ergometer competition in northern Germany. As in previous years, the Rowing Committee of the Ministry of Schools, Family and Vocational Training organized the event together with the Allgemeiner Alster-Club/Norddeutscher Ruderer-Bund and the Hamburg School Rowing Association, which meant that both schoolchildren and competitive athletes took part. Despite a few withdrawals due to illness, the event was very well attended, people cheered and the atmosphere was great.

The race was marked by Hamburg’s bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036, 2040 or 2044, which the Sports Office provided information about at its info point in the Wilhelm-Gymnasium sports hall.

The junior A races were held over 2000 meters. The winner of the junior A race was Kaya Wölk (2008) from Wiechernschule/ Alster-RV Hanseat with a time of 07:09.1. Oskar Müller (2008) from Matthias-Claudius-Gymnasium won the junior A race in a time of 06:04.4.

With 14 entries in the junior single B category over 1500 meters, Bendix Lindae (2010) from Gymnasium Lerchenfeld/RG Hansa e.V. was the fastest with 04:48.6. The fastest junior in this age group was once again Anjuli Sarker (2010) from Sophie Barat Schule/RG HANSA e.V. with 05:31.8. She was able to prevail in a large field of 20 athletes.

Great times were also achieved in the lightweight category. The Lgw A junior Jana Grävinghoff (2008) from Albrecht-Thaer-Gymnasium/ HRC competed without an opponent and achieved a time of 08:15.2. The fastest lightweight rower in the A section with only two entries was Jonas Kursawe (2008) from Heinrich-Hertz-Schule/ RG Hansa e.V. with a time of 06:56.3.

In contrast, there was a larger field of entries in the lightweight B juniors. Thirteen athletes competed here. Nils Prigge (2010) from Lise-Meitner-Gymnasium/ RV an den Teichwiesen won the 1500m race in a time of 05:15.4. Donya Noory (2011) from Wichern Schule/Alster-RV Hanseat beat her two opponents in the women’s rowing race in a time of 06:31.2.

There were a large number of entries in the 500m school children’s races. A total of 66 young athletes in the age groups (2012-2015) took part in their races. The girls’ winners were Svea Wölken (2015), Ada Blunk (2014), Miriam Fossati (2013) and Leana Stier (2012). Johann Möcklinghoff (2015), Simon Decker (2014), Levi Thorade (2013) and Alexander Huck (2012) each secured a gold medal in the boys’ race, with just under 100 rowers daring to take on the 1000m distance in these age groups. The winners here were Lina Weckesser (2014), Sophie Richer (2013) and Lena Koseki (2012). The strongest athletes over this distance were Nathan Schüßler (2014), Samuel Gerban (2013) and Frane Mikulic (2012).

Furthermore, those present were able to compete in the relay together with their classmates: Elias Tatsi (2014) Lukas Tatsi (2014) and Dey Nadjdi Samii (2013) from Wilhelm-Gymnasium achieved 1442 meters in the 3 x 2 minute relay (2012-2015). The Wilhelm-Gymnasium students Clara Goldammer (2013), Carlotta Weber (2013) and Miriam Fossati (2013) also made it onto the podium with a distance of 1437 meters.
