Over the Pentecost weekend (June 7–8, 2025), the Hamburg Rowing Youth State Championship took place in Schwerin on Lake Faulen See. This served as the qualification regatta for the National Competition for Boys and Girls (U15), which will be held in early July in Munich.
Despite sometimes adverse weather conditions with heavy rain and strong winds, children from all active Hamburg rowing clubs competed. Participants came from, among others, Ruderverein Wandsbek, Ruder-Gesellschaft HANSA, Ruderverein HANSEAT, Ruder-Club Favorite Hammonia, Hamburger und Germania Ruder-Club, Ruder-Club Allemannia, RV-Teichwiesen, Harburger Ruderverein, and Ruderinnen-Club Hamburg. This strong turnout highlights the extensive and committed talent development and promotion within Hamburg’s rowing community.
This year’s Children’s State Championship was held over two days. Saturday featured the 3000-meter long-distance race, followed by the 1000-meter races on Sunday. Clearly defined qualification criteria ensured fair competitions and a transparent selection of the best boats.
RV-Teichwiesen was particularly prominent this year, entering an exceptionally large number of children and thus contributing a significant portion to the National Competition team. This strong presence reflects the club’s sustainable and successful work in the U15 category – both organizationally and athletically.
The Hamburg team for the National Competition in Munich has now been nominated and is once again very large. Teams were able to be filled in almost all boat classes.
The Hamburg Rowing Youth and the AAC/NRB are now eagerly looking forward to the upcoming National Competition. Beyond the sporting aspect, organizing the trip – including transport, accommodation, and supervision – presents a significant logistical and financial challenge.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all coaches, helping hands, and parents who made the State Championship possible and supported the Hamburg children through a challenging but successful weekend.
