On September 21, 2025, in autumnal rowing weather, the Hamburg women rowers celebrated their 100th club anniversary with an Internal Regatta at Isekai.
All women rowers and invited guests could proudly look back on 100 years of rowing at the Hamburg Women’s Rowing Club of 1925.
On behalf of the German Rowing Federation and the AAC/NRB State Rowing Association, Andreas Döpper warmly congratulated the Hamburg Women’s Rowing Club of 1925 e.V. on this special occasion!
The history of the Hamburg Women’s Rowing Club of 1925 e.V. began as a women’s rowing squad of the AAC, leading to the founding of the HRC in December 1925, the adoption of its statutes, and the election of its first board. Rowing operations commenced in 1926 at an AAC boathouse on Canalstraße. From 1930, they moved to a larger home, the boathouse of a shipyard on the Oberalster. Further boathouses were located in Entenwerder, Alsterlust, and Ferdinandstor. Ultimately, in the 1950s, a new boathouse was built at Isekai, establishing the HRC’s current location. The subsequent years represent continuous expansion and development up to the present day.
The HRC is also responsible for examining its history during the National Socialist era, a task carried out by the Research Centre for Contemporary History, whose results have just been presented.
The extensive anniversary volume of the HRC outlines a mission statement for the future, highlighting what is important to the Hamburg women rowers.
Tradition – Sporting Spirit – Communication – Networking – Sustainability – Community.
Successes at national and international regattas confirm the excellent work in youth development and competitive sports.
A balanced offering of recreational sports, competitive sports, and touring rowing characterizes the Hamburg Women’s Rowing Club today.
All the best for the future of rowing for the Hamburg Women’s Rowing Club – on behalf of the German Rowing Federation and the Allgemeiner Alsterclub / North German Rowers’ Association – and much success and joy in rowing, and good luck!
