New Buoys on the Allermöhe Regatta Course

On the eight lanes of the Allermöhe regatta course, which are equipped with buoys in the Albano system, a complete renewal was urgently needed in 2023/24. Due to weather conditions, most of the buoys have to be dismantled by our course builder in autumn and reinstalled in spring. Nevertheless, the almost 3,000 buoys age due to UV radiation and algae growth and therefore also need to be renewed approximately every six years; the material costs for this are around €30,000, plus installation and disposal of the old buoys.

These buoys are attached to 16 steel cables, each approximately 2,200 m long, which are stretched underwater from start to finish. Although the cables are made of stainless steel, they corrode and are at risk of breaking. Hans-Thomas Rehbein, representing our operating company and thus also the client, noted that the cables had to be patched 11 times by our course builder on the regatta course. Every year, two longitudinal cables are renewed, which also incurs significant material costs of around €20,000.

We are pleased to once again have optimal conditions in the lane system for competitive sports and daily training operations, says Andreas Döpper, Chairman of the AAC/NRB.
