Manfred Riechers had a great idea. “When I’m 90, we’ll field an eight with rowers over 90 for the 160th anniversary of RC Allemannia v. 1866.” On September 5, 2026, the time had finally come.
Nine men over 90, with a combined age of 815 years, got together for a short row on the Alster. Everything went wonderfully, and it was great to see that, as soon as they cast off in the double eight, everyone was fully engaged and in their element.
Rowing! A wonderful sport you can enjoy well into old age. For us “younger folks,” they’re a great example of how fit you can stay as you get older if you stick with it, says Ines Stelzig.
“As the AAC/NRB Hamburg State Rowing Association, we are very proud to have active members in our clubs and organizations in Hamburg who can continue rowing well into old age in the most beautiful city in the world,” says Andreas Döpper, president of the AAC/NRB Hamburg State Rowing Association.
Congratulations to all the rowers on the team led by Manfred Riechers of RC Allemannia von 1866 for this extraordinary achievement.
